Sometimes life gets us good. Sometimes we get dealt a card that we wouldn’t ever have chosen to get dealt in a million years. Sometimes God brings us through situations and experiences in life, and we look back now, with it behind us, and wonder how on earth we got through it. Sometimes we look back, and wonder why we ever had to go through it to begin with.
Those bad experiences are, in effect, allowed by God. Maybe not caused by God in general, but at minimum, allowed. Sometimes, and perhaps more often than that, we never get to know why. But let me offer up one perspective that we can have after we’ve come through those hard times…
Simply put, we can use those experiences to help others. People come in and out of our lives each and every day. Only some of those do we stop long enough to get to know. It’s just the reality of life. But there are those whom God may put in our path who are going through something that we’ve gone through before. Perhaps for them, it’s just as painful, or more. Perhaps they don’t have a Hope to look to. Perhaps to them it seems like the end of the world, and there’s no way out. Perhaps they don’t have any answers, or the help… or perhaps not even just a friend who will walk along their side through it. They have never felt so alone before.
You know what I’m talking about?
You remember that situation in your own life?
You went through it.
You know how it was…… and you survived it.
Be ever watchful of what God is doing in your life. Someone may come across your path who is struggling in a way that you know all too well. Perhaps that is your opportunity to help. You don’t have to go save the world. You’ll know if it’s your time to help someone. Don’t run. Don’t make up excuses. Just help. Be sure to help someone because they need your help, not because it makes you feel good.
Empathy is necessary. Compassion is vital. Love is the basis.
We, as Christians, can sometimes help people get through some situations in life because, and only because, God allowed it our own life. Perhaps in helping someone else in their situation, you’ll learn the reason you had to go through yours.
